Swimming Pool Reopening Guidelines

We are excited to announce that our swimming pool will reopen on October 26, 2020.  We are committed to your health and safety and we are taking every precaution possible in light of the COVID-19 pandemic.  The swimming pool will operate at 33% capacity in accordance with New York State law, while strictly following NYC Department of Health guidelines.

  • In October, the swimming pool will be open to Kings Bay Y Members only, with reservations required. 
  • You can reserve only one time slot per day, due to capacity limits.
  • Reservations must be made 24 hours in advance. 
  • Group swim lessons are reopening in November!

What are the hours of operation for October?
At this time, the swimming pool is open only to Kings Bay Y members and by reservation only.  Please refer to the new October pool schedule HERE.  The swimming pool will remain closed on Saturdays and Sundays.  Sauna and steam room are closed until further notice.  Showers will be open and cleaned after use.  Lockers are open at a reduced capacity.

How can I make a reservation?
You can reserve only one time slot per day, due to capacity limits.  Reservations must be made 24 hours in advance.  Please use the online reservation system to reserve pool time HERE.  Walk-ins will be allowed entry depending upon the total number of members already in the pool.

New Swimming Pool Safety Procedures

  • All patrons are required to fill out a COVID waiver prior to entering the building.
  • All patrons are subject to a contactless temperature check upon entry into the facility (Temperatures exceeding 100.4 degrees F will not be permitted in the building)
  • If you are feeling sick, please stay home. Patrons exhibiting any symptoms of COVID-19 will not be permitted to enter the building.
  • Each patron is required to wash or sanitize their hands prior to entering the pool.
  • All patrons must maintain 6 feet apart at all times.
  • All patrons must follow designated pathways to ensure a safe flow.
  • The pool capacity is limited to 33% of people in the pool at all times.
  • At this time, you can reserve only one time slot per day, due to capacity limits.
  • Walk-ins will be allowed entry depending upon the total number of members already in the pool.
  • Face coverings are required at all times, except when in the pool. All swimmers are required to wear face coverings when traveling to and from the pool deck. Face coverings may only be removed when the swimmer is entering the water. Swimmers are responsible for bringing their own bag to store their face covering in designated areas on the pool deck (hooks are available to hang up bags.)
  • Swim instructors and lifeguards will wear face coverings at all times when not in the water.
  • Sauna and steam rooms are closed until further notice.
  • Showers will be open and cleaned after use.
  • Pool equipment (including kick boards, pool noodles, etc.) is not available for use by members. Equipment may be used by private swim instructors and private swim participants.
  • Swimmers are encouraged to arrive in swim gear to speed up changing process in the locker room
  • Lockers are open at a reduced capacity

Are there additional precautions taken in the swimming pool area?
The pool area will be thoroughly cleaned and sanitized between each swim session.  Hand sanitizing stations have been set up around our building for use by patrons.  Deep cleaning will be performed on a nightly basis, along with enhanced sanitizing procedures throughout the day.  Water fountains are limited to water bottle refills ONLY. Drinking from the water fountains is NOT PERMITTED at this time.  Our central HVAC system filtration meets the rating required by the New York State Department of Health.

I am a Kings Bay Y member. Is my membership being reactivated?
Your membership is considered reactivated on the day that you return to use the fitness center/gym/pool. As a courtesy to our members, we are extending your membership for the number of days between our closure in March and your original expiration date.

Is the Learn to Swim program restarting at this time?
Yes! Group swim lessons are restarting in November. Registration opens on October 26th.

Are private swim lessons available?
Yes, private swim lessons are available!  Swim instructors will wear face coverings at all times when not in the water.  To book private swim lessons, please click here

New safety procedures
  • Face coverings are required at all times by all patrons, including during workouts.
  • All patrons are subject to a contactless temperature check upon entry into the facility (Temperatures exceeding 100.4 degrees F will not be permitted in the building)
  • All patrons must maintain 6 feet apart at all times.
  • All patrons must follow designated pathways to ensure a safe flow.
  • All patrons are required to fill out a COVID waiver prior to entering the building.
  • Each patron is required to wash or sanitize their hands prior to entering the fitness room.
  • Each patron is responsible for sanitizing any equipment after each use.
  • Capacity is limited to 7 people per hour in the fitness room at one time.
  • Patrons are required to bring their own water bottle. Drinking from the water fountain is prohibited; however patrons may fill up their water bottle at the fountain.
  • If feeling sick, please stay home. Patrons exhibiting any symptoms of COVID-19 will not be permitted to enter the building.
  • Every other piece of cardio equipment has been marked off-limits to ensure patrons are following proper social distancing etiquette.
  • Walk-ins will be allowed entry depending upon the total number of members already in the Fitness Center.
Our new safety protocols
  • Plexiglass Barriers have been installed at points of contact between staff and members at the desk.
  • A new reservation system has been implemented. Patrons must reserve fitness room time prior to entering the building. The fitness room can be reserved in 1 hour increments by emailing membership@kingsbayy.org
  • Hand sanitizing stations have been set up around our building for use by patrons.
  • Deep cleaning will be performed on a nightly basis, as well as enhanced sanitizing procedures throughout the day.
  • Locker rooms are closed until further notice. All patrons must come dressed in their work out clothing.
  • Water fountains are limited to water bottle refills ONLY. Drinking from the water fountains is NOT PERMITTED at this time.
  • Our central HVAC system filtration meets the rating required by the New York State Department of Health.
