What is CLASSP?
The Consortia for Learning and Service to Special Populations (CLASSP) was created in response to the growing interests of the special needs community. CLASSP is a collaborative project of nine New York community based organizations. CLASSP has helped over 175 high school students transform the lives of hundreds of children with disabilities and receive valuable job experience.
CLASSP is a year-long internship designed to provide select high school and college students new skills and approaches of working with special needs children who have Autistic Spectrum Disorders (ASD). Upon completion of the program, high school students receive 1 college credit and a stipend and college students receive between 3 and 6 elective credits and a stipend. Students who are interested in working with ASD children are eligible for future employment opportunities.
Applying their new skills and individual talents, students help our special needs children develop their strengths through creative play, dance, arts & crafts, yoga, story time and more.

Services for children 2-4
The Kings Bay YM-YWHA Preschool is happy to accept children (ages 2 – 4) who have been diagnosed with Special Needs through Early Intervention or through the CPSE (Committee on Preschool Special Education). Several of our children receive itinerant services including SEIT, Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy and Speech. If you do not currently have a provider for these services, we can assist you in obtaining one. In addition, if your child has not been evaluated but you have concerns, we can help you to arrange the evaluation.
